About our partnership:
After decades as solo practicing doulas, Kate Dewey and Jane Drichta have teamed up to provide a shared-call experience for their clients. This unique practice style allows them to be more available for their families and travel commitments, while continuing to do the work they both love. Some of the benefits of this style for our birthing clients are:
- A complete doula experience. At least two prenatal visits (officially these are unlimited, and 2 is our minimum so we get to know you), continuous support for you during your birth and continuing through the first hour postpartum, and one postpartum zoom visit after the birth.
- Two heads are better than one! With over 4,000 births between the two of them on 4 continents (nearly a third of them being VBAC deliveries) and decades educating families, their experience in the field of birth is vast and they share their knowledge with you at the prenatal visits. Each doula will attend one of the prenatal visits with you and work together to guide you with your preparation for birth.
- Shared call means you are always calling a fresh-faced doula when you need one. As we will also be providing backup to each other, you are less likely to have a doula you don't know attending your birth in the event that the primary doula is ill or with another family. If you are enduring a longer than usual birth, your doulas may opt to swap out in order to get some rest, ensuring that you are always attended by an energized and well rested doula.
- We also offer many other services. Our combined skill set includes childbirth education, lactation support, newborn sleep consulting and postpartum doula care. If you'd like to add any of these services to your package, please let us know.
Frequently Asked Questions
How can I see if we are a good fit?
At this time, Kate and Jane are only accepting birth clients if we have worked with you for a prior pregnancy or if you are a new client considering a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After a Cesarean). If this is you, you can fill out our Interested Client Form and you will be sent an email that has a link to schedule your free meeting with us over zoom. This is a chance to get to know us and ask any questions you have about our experiences, your specific situation, and explore how we can support you during this time. Repeat clients do not need to schedule an interview before booking with us.
After we've met and I have decided to hire you, what happens?
A deposit of $1500 is collected upon hire and you will be sent links to book the appointments for the first and second prenatal visits with your doulas. Each doula will do one prenatal visit with you in our telehealth room. The remaining balance of $1500 is collected at/after the second prenatal visit or around 36 weeks.
What happens when I think I am in labor?
We have one call number that will be provided to our clients so getting in touch with us is simple. This number is available to you for text or calls at any point during your pregnancy and postpartum time. (yes, even for 3am panic moments about which baby bathtub to buy!) When you are showing signs of labor, the doula on call will help you navigate your early labor and help decide when to join you in labor for more hands-on support. The doula will be with you, working through your contractions and helping you navigate through your labor until the birth of your baby. After baby is born, the doula will remain with you for at least the first hour postpartum.
After the birth, is there a postpartum visit?
The doula who attended your birth will do your postpartum visit about 1-2 weeks after your baby's birth and you will have access to that same call number in the event that any questions arise during your postpartum time. Additional 60-minute postpartum check-in telehealth visits can be added at no additional cost at any time.
How many clients do you take in a month?
We will take about 2-3 clients per month. In the rare event that neither of us are available, we have a long list of qualified backup doulas that we tap into but this is also very rare.
