Kalyn Hulten Full Spectrum Doula (She/Hers)
When I became pregnant with my daughter, I knew right away I wanted to have a doula. I had been reading and researching home births, and one of the most common recommendations was “hire a doula”. We came to the conclusion that having someone who was knowledgeable about birth that could have a clear head and focus on me was important. That’s when we hired Kate! I was lucky to have an amazing birth team during when I went into labor. They were incredibly supportive, helpful, encouraging, and empowering.
At 10 days after birth, my daughter needed to be in the NICU for a blood clot in her brain. Kate came to visit, and I immediately broke down. She hugged me and assured me that things would be okay. It was during this time I decided that I needed to make a huge career shift and work somewhere in the birth world. I previously worked in animal welfare and often had to talk foster parents through difficult times. Helping people has always been second nature to me. The more research I did on how doulas care for their clients, the more it became clear to me that I was meant to help birthing people in the role of doula.
I am passionate about helping birthing parents of all kinds bring their babies earth side, no matter how they choose to do so. My job is to always advocate for you, and never make decisions for you. You should feel safe and empowered when birthing, and I will strive to create an environment for you to do so. I have personal experience with being a plus size mother and have a special place in my heart for someone who may struggle with that kind of adversity in the birthing world.
I live in Lynnwood, WA with my husband, daughter, and our two cats. When I’m not working with clients, I can be found chasing my ever-busy toddler around the yard or catching up on the tv show I’m currently bingeing.
Praise for Kalyn:
"Kalyn was our doula for our second child, and she was exactly what we needed! During my long early labor, Kalyn kept in contact with my husband and I through texts and phone calls, offering encouragement, humor and insight. When it was time to go to the hospital, she met us in the hallway mid contraction. She offered my husband suggestions and reminded me to ground and breath. I had been very anxious up to that point, and her calming presence made me feel safe and loved. I absolutely recommend Kalyn and we will be recommending her to all of our friends!"
