Welcome, and congratulations on your new arrival!

I’m so glad you’ve found your way to this newborn log and postpartum recovery journal. I created this booklet for parents who want to thoughtfully track their baby’s early days, while gradually easing into a rhythm of trusting their baby’s cues and their own intuition.

After decades of work as a birth and postpartum doula, I’ve seen how easily tracking apps can pull parents’ focus away from their baby’s natural rhythms. While those tools can offer helpful data and insight, they sometimes encourage parents to prioritize numbers over connection. This journal is designed to support you in noticing patterns, while gently guiding you back to what matters most—being present with your baby.

You’ll notice the structure of the tracker shifts over time. In the first two weeks, the journal offers detailed daily tracking. After that, it gradually tapers, helping you let go of what's no longer necessary. The goal is to build your confidence, not your data set.

Uniquely, this tracker also includes a space for the birthing parent’s own recovery. Your well-being matters just as much as your baby’s. You’ll find dedicated sections to log postpartum medications, track meals and sleep, jot daily notes, and reflect on your birth experience in the journaling section. Throughout the journal, you’ll also encounter a weekly self-assessment tool for perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. This internationally recognized resource can help you stay aware of your mental health as you adjust to life with a newborn.

Finally, I’ve included helpful one-page guides on common topics and challenges that arise in the early weeks.
