How many births have you attended?
As of this post, I have had the joy of attending over 150 families as they welcome babies! I've worked in all area hospitals, birth centers and homebirth.
Do you offer any special services along with birth doula care?
I do! Along with being a birth doula, I also offer Childbirth Education Classes and many of my birth clients opt to take their classes from me as a way to get to know me even better before the birth. I also am a Lactation Educator so I can offer an extra skill set to my families during the postpartum time.
What's your home-life like?
I have a very busy home life!  As a full time mom of four and one more on the way, my family is a blended brood of awesomeness. I like to stay busy with my kids and husband but I also like to slow down and sew, read, bake and hike with my family.
What did you do before you were a doula?
Before I was a doula, I was a nanny and a student on my way to nursing school. Babies have always been my calling, and I am so beyond thrilled to have found a career path that allows me to be at home with my kids while also filling my soul in the birth room with families a few times per month.
How do you involve my partner in the birth room?
This depends greatly on what the partner WANTS to do... I have worked with partners who want to be very hands-on and be the primary support for mom and in these cases, I supply knowledge, guidance and breaks for the partner as things progress. I also can take the role as primary support for partners who need to step back a bit either to care for siblings or to make the best possible experience for themselves.

How many births have you attended?
In the past six years, It has been an honor to witness the births of over 140 babies as a doula. I have learned something new at each birth and am constantly amazed at the beauty of each birthing family.
Why did you decide to become a doula?
Giving birth is such a life-changing moment for families, and it felt really important to me to be there to support and encourage parents to be empowered in that moment. My goal as a doula is to help families create stories that they feel good about telling. I especially want birthing moms to feel like they have say over their bodies and their care.
Do you offer any special services along with birth doula care?
I am a prenatal massage therapist and I teach childbirth classes that focus on trusting your body and informed decision making.
What's your home-life like?
I am the lucky mom of two little girls (3 and 5), and when I’m not driving my oldest back and forth from preschool, I’m usually finding new recipes to try, working on expanding our garden, or planning new home-improvement projects (I’m a big DIY gal). And on a typical weeknight you can find my hubby and I pushing our girls in the “buggy” while we train for our 5-10k events! I also just recently returned from a birth training in Africa. It was an amazing trip and I'm really enjoying incorporating what I've learned in to my work.
How do your own birth experiences affect your work?
After my first birth, I felt an incredible transformation inside of me as I truly stepped into my new role as a mom. As a second-time mom, it was amazing to see how my children and their births could be so unique and it really gave me great appreciation for EVERY birth as a story of it’s own. My births were long and I worked very hard to meet my children, I believe that this gives me a tremendous amount of respect for each laboring couple as they are also working hard, and holding the hope and expectation as they await the arrival of their new little one.
What did you do before you were a doula?
Before I became a doula, I ran the swimming program at our local YMCA. I have been a swimmer since I was 14 and really     enjoyed working in that environment. It’s actually also where I met my hubby!
How do you involve my partner in the birth room?
It is my belief that partners are a vital part of the birth experience. I can bring experience, comfort techniques, and perspective to the room but partners (lovers, friends, sisters, moms, etc.) provide a very special intimacy and history with mom and this is essential to creating a safe place for moms to give birth. I try to pull out these strengths and help create an interactive environment where the birth team all has a part that they feel comfortable with.
